Charming 'Marigold Meets Magnolia' Wedding In The Couple's Backyard!

BY Sakshi | 28 Mar, 2024 | 873 views | 6 min read

There is something so special about home weddings in today's day and age, and even more so when it is a home where the couple has so many shared memories. Varsha and Deep had their intimate wedding in their own backyard, and it was special in so many ways. From small little thoughtful details, simple yet elegant decor and some pretty bridal choices, their wedding was a south meets south or rather a 'Marigold meets Magnolia' wedding, owing to the fact that the couple resides in the US. Take a look at this heartfelt and wholesome union.

Meet Varsha and Deep

We met in the United States through a common friend when I was in Atlanta for studying, I got back to India and lost touch for a very long time. He then turned up at my door in India 3 years later, we had a coffee shop date and the rest unfolded as I expected it would. We had a lot of ups and downs and finally decided to get married early 2023.

Mehendi

First day was an intimate mehendi with immediate family. I wore a blue lehenga with pearly accessories from Amama Jewels and my fiancé begrudgingly wore a kurta, which was a win for me.

Haldi & Pellikuturu

We had a cozy outdoor haldi, pastel-themed pellikuturu ceremony on our patio, on a beautiful morning where rain was predicted but thankfully didn’t show(since we winged it and ditched our rain plan a week prior). This was followed by a banana leaf style traditional Telugu meal following which guests retired to their hotel for a few hours.

Muhuratam

Our wedding had 50 guests- closest family and friends.  As the sun began to set, the string lights and mandap went up for the wedding ceremony. I wore a silver Kanchi silk saree with antique jewelry going the non-traditional route. Music started with Vivaldi, Bach, and then joined the shehnai and other Indian instruments. A brief (50 minutes!) yet delightful ceremony, followed by mingling and oh-so-necessary-chaat, added to the charm. We had marigold garlands and a lot of marigold all around the house for all of the events that day.

Reception

A historic 1900s building in Atlanta, now a rustic art gallery, hosted our reception for 100 guests with a South meets South menu, magnolia-themed decor, and a bookcase filled with love notes from our guests. Signature drinks, including a kaapi martini, added a personal touch. The celebration concluded with a college-style basement party, making each moment warm and memorable.

From The Bride:

We got married on October 27, 2023. We bought a new house Early 2022 and one day we were standing in the patio and both of us thought out loud that an outdoor wedding in our backyard would be so beautiful. Then my sister came to see the house and she said “you guys should just get married here.” Almost everyone who came home shared these thoughts and we decided why not! The idea of an intimate backyard wedding was especially appealing to us in terms of our values of sustainability, avoiding wastefulness and having an intimate wedding with people we love a lot. “Marigold and Magnolia” - this is what i knew i wanted from Day 1. It marries our South Indian roots with our Southern(US) beginnings. This transpired to a south meets south themed reception.

About The WedMeGood App

A lot of the inspiration for the wedding was via WedMeGood. If you look at my Pinterest board, it’s predominantly inspo from Wedmegood’s account. It’s such a lifesaver for a bride getting married overseas who wants to stay abreast of the current trends and find a vibe that resonates with them.

Vendor Reviews

Venues

Venue for most events was our residence. A 5 star review for this venue(lol). Reception was hosted in King Plow Arts Center, West Midtown, Atlanta. This is a very old historic building repurposed to an art gallery/event center. It’s attached to our favorite concert venue. Music is a big part of our relationship and we watched/discovered a lot of our favorite artists here, so choosing King Plow as our venue is a no brainer. Their in-house decor and catering team Bold Catering and Design was phenomenal to work with and really understood the assignment.

Makeup Artist: Bogart Beauty- Erica Bogart

Erica is such a talented luxury makeup artist. She works with a lot of south Asian brides, which is evident once you see her craft. My looks were dewy, minimal, skincare inspired and flawless. Couldn’t have asked for a better makeup artist.

Wedding Planning: One Hart Events

Sumeta Satija. She was easy to speak to and understood my vision well. She came up with a lot of ideas when she took the time to get to know us and what brings joy to our lives.

Photography: Once like a spark photography

They were great to work with. Despite being an American company, they took the time to understand our vision and deliver some great memories.

Bride & Groom Outfits:

For my Mehendi, I wore a Cedar and Pine lehenga. I worked with Rahul and wore a custom blue lehenga. I wanted to wear a really different color and the blue lehenga that they had on their website was absolutely perfect.

My haldi sari was a simple bengal cotton saree that my mom got a while ago and saved for this very day. Studio Iris did my pellikuturu lehenga. It was a pastel yellow and pink lehenga that was so comfortable!
